Use of Signal Generator for Measurement of Inductance and Capacitance Impedance Bridges
Use of Signal Generator for Measurement of Inductance and Capacitance Impedance Bridges
Points : use of signal generator for measurement of inductance and capacitance impedance bridges
The concept of the wheat stone (resistive) bridge can be extended to facilitate impedance measurement. Such bridge may be used to measure the values of capacitors and inductors. There are quite a variety of bridge configurations that have been developed to accomplish this, but they are all variations on the concept of the resistive bridge. One or more of the resistors in the bridge are either supplemented or replaced by inductors and capacitors. The unknown impedance is one arm of the bridge circuit and one or more of the other arms are adjusted until the mull condition is reached. Then the value of the unknown impedance can be inferred from the values of the components in the other arms in the bridge. Of course, since this is an impedance measurement, an ac (sine wave) source is used for Vs.
Difference between Signal Generator & Oscillator
Difference between Signal Generator & Oscillator
Points : difference between signal generator and oscillator
The difference between signal generator and oscillator can be understood
by following statement.
“The signal generator, like an oscillator, is a source of sinusoidal signals but the signal generator is also capable of modulating its sinusoidal output signal with other signals”. This is the main difference between two instruments.

Phase Shift Audio Frequency Oscillators
Phase Shift Audio Frequency Oscillators
Points : phase shift audio frequency oscillators
In the phase shift oscillator an external resistor capacitor (R-C) network feeds a portion of the ac output of an
amplifier back to the amplifier input, lithe amplifier has an internal phase shift of 180° degree, and the phase
shift network provides a further phase shift of 180 degree, the signal feedback to the input can be amplified to
reproduce the output. The circuit is then generating its own input signal and a state of oscillations is
sustained. An R-C phase shift oscillator with phase lead network in the feedback path is illustrated in fig.

Wien’s Bridge Audio Frequency Oscillator
Wien’s Bridge Audio Frequency Oscillator
Points : wien’s bridge audio frequency oscillator
It is one of the most popular type of oscillators used in audio and sub-audio frequency ranges (20HZ -
20 KH). This type of oscillator is simple in design, compact in size, and remarkable stable in its frequency
output. Furthermore, its output is relatively free from distortion and its frequency can he varied easily.
However, the maximum frequency output of a typical wien bridge oscillator is only about 1 MHz.
Construction & Working of Audio Frequency Signal Generator
Construction & Working of Audio Frequency Signal Generator
Points : construction & working of audio frequency signal generator
Following fig is the conceptual block diagram of a signal generator having an internal audio oscillator for use as
source of modulation.
The heart of the signal generator is a voltage — controlled oscillator (Vco). The frequency of the Vco is determined by the voltage present at the control input. If the control voltage is increased or decreased, the frequency of the Vco increases or decreases, respectively. So whatever signal is applied to the control voltage shows up as the frequency of the oscillator. This is exactly what is required for frequency modulation. The audio modulating signal drives the control input of the VCO to produce a frequency-modulated carrier.

Points : audio frequency (af) signal generator introductory information & uses
The audio — frequency (AF) generator is a convenient source of variable frequency test signals in the audio —
frequency range (20 Hz. to 20 KHz). These signal are used to test gain (amplification) frequency response, phase
shift, and distortion of electrical and electronic circuits that operate at audio — frequencies.
