Levels of Compounding a Compound Generator

Levels of Compounding a Compound Generator Points : Levels of Compounding a Compound Generator The shunt generator gives a dropping external characteristic whereas the series generator yields a rising characteristic; therefore, if a machine is excited by both shunt and series field windings, the drop in terminal voltage of the generator can be compensated either in part or in full: also by making the series windings relatively a bit stronger, the terminal voltage may even be made to rise with load. Such a machine is called a cumulatively compounded generator, wherein the shunt and series field mmfs are assisting each other.
