Catenary Wiring System Points : Catenary Wiring System The catenary system of wiring is designed for large buildings. The open areas where screwed conduit system would be difficult to install, such places we also used catenary system. This is cheaper wiring system compared to other systems. V.R.I cable is used in catenary system. The cable consists of a number of P.V.C insulated cores mad up round a high-tensile galvanized steel wire, with suitable fillings of PVC to produce a circular shape. Usually standard cables are used in this system, such as 3/0036, 7/0,036, 7/0.064, which are consisted on two, three or four or more than four cores.

This cable may he suspended between roof members by means of the steel catenary wire secured by eye bolt and turn buckles. The distance between two cable supports is 150-ft. for this span there is no any other support is required for cable. In this system standard connection box is used and this box may be used for tee, angle or through joint’s. These boxes may also be used as boxes for fuse box, luminaries etc.

In these fuse boxes, 30A fuses are used and may also a one neutral link is used. All kinds of accessories are easily available to cable these boxes and turn buckles to be fitted on structural steel work and brick walls. The cables can be suspended n spans up t 60m. A complete section or design of a catenary system can made up at ground level, where connection boxes, lurninaric (lamps) etc; can be assembled complete before erection.

The connection boxes are made to accommodate the cables, which are 2, 3, 4, 6 or 7 cores. The connection boxes at serve as anchor boxes and are designed to anchor the steel cable a termination, at 900 angles and. also at mid-span positions. Remember that, all metal catenary wires must be earthed.

It is recommended that where catenary s stem used in outside installation or where steam or other adverse conditions the connection boxes must be filled with a plastic compound to render them weatherproof.
