Advantages and Disadvantages of Induction Voltmeter

Advantages and Disadvantages of Induction Voltmeter Points : Advantages and Disadvantages of Induction Voltmeter, Merits and De-merits Advantages 1. A full scale deflection of over 3000 can be obtained, giving a long open scale.
2. Damping is good.
3. The effect of stray magnetic fields on the readings is small, as the operating forces are large.
Disadvantages 1. Power consumption is fairly high in these instruments.
2. The cost of instruments is high.
3. The large deflection produces large stresses in the springs.
4. Serious errors are caused due to changes in frequency and temperature unless properly compensated. Therefore, these instruments are useful only for switchboards where there is not much variation in frequency.
5. These instruments are only suitable for a.c.
6. Their scale is non-uniform.
