Working Principle of Moving Iron Repulsion Type Instruments Points : Working Principle of Moving Iron Repulsion Type Instruments The repulsion type instrument works on the principle of repulsion. If two pieces or vanes of soft iron are mounted close together inside a coil and current is passed through the coil, the iron vanes are magnetized, with north poles at one end and the south poles at the other. Repulsion takes place between the two vanes since like poles are adjacent to one another. This force of repulsion can be used for measuring purposes if one vane is mounted rigidly on the coil support and the other is mounted on the instrument shaft. Hence the addition of a control spring, pointer and scale make possible a measuring device.
