Difference Between Force & Torque Points : Difference Between Force & Torque Force Force is a push or pull exerted on a body. It is a vector quantity, having magnitude and direction. In the SI or MKS unit the force is measured in Newton. In British System force is measured pounds. (Lb.) Torque or Moment Due to a force about an axis is a measure of the effectiveness of the force in producing rotation about that axis. It is defined to be the product of the force and the perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation to the line of action of the force. This perpendicular distance is called the lever arm (or moment arm).
