Joints and Connections between Cables

Joints and Connections between Cables Points : joints and connections between cables Since cleated cable runs are often used for sub-main and main wiring, jointing boxes are necessary for tapping off the supply at various points. Joints between cables can either be made by a mechanical connector or by a socket sweated on to the end of the conductor. It is advisable to use sockets if the cable is over 71.044 size, or if not available, substantial mechanical clamps should be used. A list of cable sockets suitable for each size of conductor is given in Table. Every joint in the cable must be electrically sound, and readily accessible. The joints should be made inside a steel or metal box, so as to provide mechanical protection and safety.
