Live use of Ammeter Points : Live use of Ammeter The internal resistance of the Ammeter is very small so it can not he connected in parallel with supply/load, otherwise it will burn out. Therefore, an ammeter is connected in series with load. Thus for connecting the ammeter the circuit has to he broken from the supply. Following precautions must be taken.

1. Meter should be capable to measure the required current.
2. Highest range should selected (if current’s value is unknown)
3. Use the proper selector for AC or DC current.
4. Connections should be tight and clean.
5. Avoid short circuiting.
6. Probes should be according to system voltage.

Note: However the light currents can be measured without disconnecting the circuit by Clip-On Type Current Transformer.
