- Before replacing a blown fuse, always remember to put the switch in the off position.
- Electrical protective or interlocking gears should not be tampered unless you are authorized. Before dealing with them you should take all precautions. These devices are for your safety.
- If a ladder is used, it must be held by another person so that it may not slip away.
- In case of electric shock when a person is still in contact with the live conductor, which you cannot switch off immediately, insulate yourself on a dry wooden board or thick dry paper before attempting to get him cleared. In that case even, you should not touch his body. Pull him either by his clothes if they are dry or push him with a piece of dry wood.
- Before supplying current to electrical equipment, it should be ascertained that the equipment is properly earthed and the cable insulation is strong enough.
- All wiring between the Main Switch and the machine tool should he enclosed in a metallic conduit of proper size which is electrically and mechanically continuous and efficiently earthed.
- Earth resistance should be measured with an earth tester once a year and action be taken if the resistance exceed 5 ohms.
- While handing a table fan or any other appliance, like iron, heater etc., be sure that they are disconnected from the supply. Switching off is not enough. Leaky insulation may give a serious shock.
- In case of fire, do not throw water on a live conductor and equipment. It is dangerous. The best remedy is to disconnect the electric supply immediately.
- Workshop staff should be asked to attend the refresher course periodically to ensure that they understand all the safety precautions to be taken.
- A plug point should never be disconnected by pulling the flexible cable.
- Fire extinguisher should not be used on electrical equipment unless it is marked as suitable for that purpose. Liquid carbon dioxide extinguishers or dry sand may be used for subsiding the fire.
- Safety demands good earthing. Hence always keep earth connection in good condition.
- When cells are charged in a room, maintain good ventilation and never bring a flame near any accumulator.
- You should not tamper unnecessarily an alive electric gear.
- Live wire should always be connected through the switch.
- When preparing an electrolyte, add acid to water and not water to acid.
- Electric shocks are usually received by the students which should be avoided being careful.
- Overhead line should never be touched unless you are sure that it is dead and properly earthed.
- Before starting the work above ground on a pole or tower, you should use a safety belt.
- A conductor should never be energized unless you are sure that all is clear and there is none working on it.
