Earth Satellite Station
Points : earth satellite station definition
Equipment used in the earth satellite station is shown in the figure. The earth station consists of a dish and
transmitter that can transmit a high-frequency microwave signal. Some earth stations, also called ground stations,
can transmit and receive signals, while others can only receive signals.
Highly directive and high gain antenna is necessary at the earth station, because the losses over the long
transmission path is very high. The signal power reaching the earth station is very small. Therefore at the
receiver, a parabolic dish antenna with a 6.1 m diameter provides high gain and thus raises the signal power. It
is important to have a low-noise amplifier (LNA) before the mixer stage in the receiver circuits at the satellite
earth terminal.
