Trunking System
Points : Trunking Wiring System
Trunking for industrial and commercial installation is often used in place of the larger sizes of
conduit. Trunking system is more flexible than conduit systems. Trunking is available in both metallic
and non-metallic type. We can install the trunking easily in surface fitting. Surface metal turking come
in various sizes and types of material. It may include heavy industrial listed surface metal trunking
that can withstand physical damage and specially approved for industrial locations.
Trunking is also painted to match the decor and provide a quick, decorative, efficient way to comply
with modem-day requirements for convenience outlets located throughout the facility. Surface metal
trunking must be of such construction as to distinguish them from other raceways.
Their elbows, couplings and other similar fittings shall be designed so that the sections can be
electrically and mechanically coupled together. In multistory buildings trunking of suitable capacity
.and with the necessary number of compartment is usually provided.
In trunking system the telecommunications companies to insist that their cables are completely
segregated from all other wiring system. Therefore, for this purpose, install 3 or 4 compartment
trunking. Cables feeding emergency; lighting and fire alarms must be segregated from the wiring of any
other circuits.
Many reputable manufacturers can now supply trunking ranging from 1.5 x 1.5 inch to 4 x 9 inch or even
larger, with two or more compartments.
Trunking is available in length of 6-ft to 8-ft where there are vertical runs of cables in trunking,
then pin racks should be fitted inside the trunking to support the weight of these cables.
These pin racks consist of steel pins, sheathed by an insulating material and fitted at intervals of Sm.
Where vertical trunking passes through floors it must be provided with internal fire barriers. These
fires barriers consist of nonflammable materials. When large cable are installed in trunking care must
be taken to ensure that all cables are of sufficient radius to avoid damaging. In this system P.V.C /
V.I.R cables are commonly used.
